Jack, Rachael and Jessica worked to clean up the bike’s engine and frame and remove the rear tyre which proved to be something of struggle. A new tyre is now required. Preparation was also started to get the wheels ready for spraying.

Helped by John and Steven Williams we double checked for electrical faults one last time before fighting to get the carburettors off. On inspection there was a lot of green verdigris on the float needle seats causing most of the float needles to be sticky. Also each and every one of the four idle jets was blocked solid. Painstaking work over about four hours by John, Steve Williams and I, saw all four carbs disassembled cleaned and rebuilt. Now they are ready to be put back on the bike and tested out. Fingers crossed it runs OK and they don’t leak fuel. Then it will be a case of fighting the carb to air cleaner box connectors back into place.

Workshop Session

To improve the facilities Martin began preparing the wall in the toilet that we use by damp proofing the wall in readiness for painting. Thank you to local charity Foothold Cymru for donating all the paint that will be used for this project as well as paint brushes and roller. The donation was arranged by Phil Howells.. Our main recent purchase for the workshop is a chordless De-Walt electric drill. This was put to good use by Jack and his mother removing rust on the projects they were working on.

Ural 650 - New Project

This bike belongs to club member Annabelle. Problems with a sloppy rear wheel have been overcome with the purchase of a new wheel spindle (Many thanks to Ianto for tracking one down) The one that had been fitted previously was not the correct length. Phil J kindly began working to replace large parts of the bike’s electrics. I had also done some work to begin overhauling the carburettors.

Jessica, Rachel and I (Graham) did work to put the bike back together and get it running. This involved stripping and checking out the carburettor, reinstalling the intake manifold and carb, installing a new throttle cable and installing a brand new battery.
